Library Under Construction
It has been many, many years in the making, but, we are excited to announce that… (drumroll please)…THE LIBRARY IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
Over the past 3 years the Library Board has been working hard to develop plans and raise funds for expansion and renovation of our beautiful building. This multi-phase plan will lead to a new reading room (Phase 1), a new community room (Phase 2) and eventually, a new children’s area (Phase 3).
Today, we broke ground on our first phase of construction, the “Reading Room Addition”. This space will have multiple uses and its’ benefits will be noticed immediately. The “Reading Room Addition” will provide additional room for meetings, a private space for tutoring, studying, distance learning, telehealth visits and so much more. This construction project has been primarily funded through a NYS Public Library Construction Grant. The library has funded the rest of the project from estate bequests and donations received over many years. It is anticipated that this addition should be completed within 6 months. Future phases of construction are not set to begin right away, but, our next phase is in the works and tentatively set to begin next year. For now, we are just over the moon excited to see these plans come to fruition!
A few important things to note while we are under construction:
**Parking will be impacted. Please try to park along Memorial Drive if possible so there is a clear space for construction equipment and materials.
**We do NOT anticipate any need to close the library while under construction BUT if the need arises we will notify the community as early in advance as possible.
**If any strong odors (paints, chemicals, excessive dust) will be present, we will provide 72 hour notice to the community so that individuals who are sensitive to those things can plan library visits accordingly.
**Please be mindful of the safety fencing and respectful of construction equipment and materials. Safety is important!!!
**If you have questions or concerns PLEASE reach out to us. You are encouraged to email cbecker@sals.edu or call 518-677-2443 and the Library Director will answer any questions you have as soon as possible.
